Volunteer Opportunities

If you've been looking for a worthwhile way to spend your time in Rio, then check these out. The InC has many wonderful volunteer opportunities. If you are interested, please contact the person referenced and check back often as new opportunities arise all the time.
Ill Sorisso Escolinha Saci Sabe Todo (daycare for children from 2-6 years old) located in Rocinha needs teaching assistant volunteers to help in the classroom. Assistants will make sure the children are working on the activities, provide hugs when someone is hurt or she/he is missing his/her mommy or daddy, tell them good job whn they show their beautiful paintings, and help to watch out for the children since sometimes the teachter has 18 r more children in their classrooms. Volunteers can come one day or more per week from 9am to 12pm or 1pm to 5pm. Friday is the busiest day of the week and volunteers are especially needed for this day. The volunteers do not need to speak Portuguese, but it will help if they learn to say listen, silence, my name is..., come, good job, and sit down. Luta Pela Paz Each month we hold a birthday celebration for the children of Luta Pela Paz, which is located in the Complexo de Mare favela. The InC provides a selection of tasty treats, which all the children of the organization as well as many members of the community come to enjoy. There is singing, dancing and usually a special performance by some of the children. If you are interested in participating please contact Elaine Hong at hongailian@gmail.com If you don't have the time, this is also a great opportunity to make a donation or goods. We are always in need of plates, cups, forks, napkins, soda etc. to make the celebration special.

English Teaching We have completed our first training session for our English teaching program. The following classes are being started in the following charities: Casa Jovem - Rocinha / adolescents and young adults Ill Sorriso - Rocinha / younger children Childrens Aid - Botafogo / older kids Childrens Aid - Sao Cristovao / young children ASVI - Cidade de Deus / adolescents If you are interested in participating in this program please contact Elaine Hong at hongailian@gmail.com Every Tuesday our members visit Abrigo Evangelico da Pedra de Guaratiba, an orphanage on the outskirts of Recreio.
