The Society is a civil, non-profit organization with no political or religious affiliations, founded in 1917, in the midst of the World War I, when a group of American women in Rio got together to make bandages for the war effort. Their husbands decided to create a full-fledged organization to support their initiative and to maintain the American community united in a foreign city.
2020 was a difficult year for everyone and the Society was not able to host events as it has done throughout its long history, and it is still uncertain when we will be able safely return to meeting together as a group. However, with vaccinations accelerating, there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Despite the limitations imposed by the pandemic, the Society needs your support more than ever.
Memberships are open to all interested adults and their families of all nationalities, not only Americans and Brazilians!
