2. Personal data processed and cookies used on site
When you visit our website or contact us, including via the “Contact” field available on our website, you may need to provide us with certain personal data regarding yourself and/or members of your family, such as your name, your spouse’s name, the number of persons in your immediate family, your e-mail address, your spouse’s e-mail address, your address, your telephone number, your cell phone number, and the personal tax identification number (“CPF”) of you and/or your spouse. In certain circumstances, you may also need to provide us with information about your bank account.
When you visit our website, we will collect certain personal data regarding you through the site.For some of this personal data, you may opt out of collection, or use browser settings or browser add-ons to block collection, as discussed further below. However, we are required by law to both collect and retain some of the personal data, as discussed further below.
We do collect any sensitive personal data from you (race, ethnicity, religion, political opinion, union or religious/philosophical/political organization membership, health, sexuality, genetic or biometric).
We also use analytical cookies on our website. When you visit our website, we will collect certain personal data regarding you with these cookies, such as the IP address of the device you are using, the city and country from which you are connecting, whether you are connecting from a desktop computer or a mobile device, the brand and model of your mobile device, the operating system of your device, the type and language settings of the browser you are using, whether you are a new or returning visitor, the number of times you have visited the site, the total number of pages you view, how long you remained on each page and on the site as a whole, the URL of the page you visited before entering the site and the URL of the page you visit upon leaving the site.

Once installed, this extension will disable Google’s analytical cookies on our website and other websites which use the cookies.
We do not use any advertising cookies on our website.
When you visit our website, we will record the time you accessed the site and the time you left the site, as well as the IP address of the device you accessed the site from.In accordance with Brazilian law, we will maintain these records securely for 6 months, and for a longer period of time if ordered by a court or law enforcement authority to do so.
3. Purposes for processing personal data
We process your personal data as described above for the purposes of providing information to you about Society membership and events and news of interest to the Society’s membership, responding to your inquiries about Society membership and events, carrying out market research and analysis, improving our website, managing the Society’s business, and to comply with legal obligations.
We will only process your personal data if we have a legal basis to do so.The legal basis will depend on the reason we collected the data, and will almost always be because:
you provided consent or
we have a legal or regulatory obligation to do so.
The legal basis may also be:
to exercise our rights in legal or administrative proceedings, or because
processing is necessary for our legitimate business interests.
4. Processing, storage, protection of personal data
We will only process your personal data for the purposes we collected it for, and will retain the personal data as long as we need it for the purpose for which it is being processed.
For example, if you become a member of the Society, via our website, by completing a paper application at one of our events, or in another fashion, we will retain your personal data (and, if relevant, the personal data of your spouse and immediate family members) as long as you remain a member, to facilitate communicating with you about the Society and its events.After you stop being a member, we will retain your personal data (and, if relevant, the personal data of your spouse and immediate family members) for a period that will allow us to respond to any disputes that may arise related to the time you were a member. If you cease being a member of the Society, but agree to remain on our mailing list, we will maintain your personal data (and, if relevant, the personal data of your spouse and immediate family members) until you inform us you wish to be removed from our mailing list.
In another example, if you contact us to inquire about membership, our events, sponsorship, or other subjects, but do not become a member, attend our events, or become a sponsor, we will retain certain information, such as your name, contact information, and the reason for your contacting us, for a period that will allow us to respond to any disputes that may arise related to your contacting us. In addition, if you agree to be placed on our mailing list, we will maintain your personal data until you inform us you wish to be removed from our mailing list.
In another example, when you visit our website, we will record the time you accessed the site and the time you left the site, as well as the IP address of the device you accessed the site from.In accordance with Brazilian law, we will maintain these records securely for 6 months, and for a longer period of time if ordered by a court or law enforcement authority to do so.
In another example, when you visit our website, we will track the number of different pages you visit, how long you stay on each page, and how long you stay on the website as a whole, among other data discussed above. Google will combine the information for your visit with the information of everyone else who visits our site during a certain period of time and report it to us, so that we can analyze which pages of our site are receiving the most attention, and decide whether to make changes or improvements to the site to make it more interesting or useful.
We do not engage in automated processing of your personal data.
When we have completed processing your personal data for the purpose for which we collected it, we will securely eliminate it, unless we have a legal basis for retaining it.
While we retain your personal data, we will store it, usually in a computerized format, although occasionally in paper format, in a secure manner, using technical and administrative measures to protect the data from unauthorized access or accidental or unlawful destruction, loss, alteration, communication, or dissemination, including but not limited to password protection, encryption, backups, controlled access, and internal policies.
Your personal data may be sent to and stored by us and third parties outside the country in which you are located and outside the European Economic Area and Brazil.These countries may have local laws which provide you with fewer legal rights.In these instances, we will take steps to protect your personal data by the standards provided in this Policy.
5. Sharing of personal data
We may share your personal data with other persons or entities (“data processors”) which provide support to us, including our accountants, our banks, companies which provide us with e-mail, webhosting, and database services, and other persons and entities we contract to assist us in providing services to the Society.In these instances, we will take steps to protect your personal data by the standards provided in this Policy.
We may also share your personal data with government and law enforcement entities as required by law or in response to their valid and legal requests, with lawyers assisting us in disputes with you over our current or past business relationship with you, and if necessary to comply with a legal or regulatory requirement.
As mentioned in Section 2 above, we use Google’s Google Analytics tool to monitor the details of visits to our website. Google Analytics may also provide information regarding your usage of our website to other websites. You have the following rights with respect to your personal data that we process:
You have the right to know that we are processing your personal data, why we are processing it, how we are processing it, with whom it will be shared, and for how long it will be retained.
You have the right to review your personal data that is known to us.
You have the right to correct your personal data that is incomplete, incorrect, or outdated, and, under certain circumstances, to have it anonymized, blocked or eliminated.
You have the right to refuse to consent to treatment of your personal data, and if you do, we will inform you of the negative consequences of your refusing to consent.
If you provide your consent to process your data, you have the right to later expressly revoke that consent and have your personal data deleted, unless we are legally required to retain, or otherwise permitted to retain, the data.
You have the right to expressly request that we collect all your personal data and transfer it to another controller, subject to our rights to our trade secrets and to retain anonymized data, and unless we are legally required to retain, or otherwise permitted to retain, the data.

If you have a complaint about how we process your personal data, we would like to hear from you directly about it, but you also have the right to submit a complaint to the National Data Authority and/or to consumer protection authorities concerning our processing of your personal data.
